I would like to use Graphviz to visualize chemical reaction pathways from my Cantera simulations. However, to be allowed to install it on my work computer, my company IT department requests the ECCN (Export Control Classification Number). Does such a number exist or can a developer help?
I am not aware of an ECCN for Graphviz. I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that open source software like Graphviz is exempt from US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The Linux Foundation, though not an authoritative source, has this to say:
For the purposes of compliance with the EAR, if the open source technology is publicly available without restrictions upon its further dissemination, then it is “published” and therefore “not subject to” the EAR.
All Graphviz code is open source and, as far as I can recall, it has no use of cryptography.
I agree with smattr. I found the same Linux Foundation source and interpreted it the same way.
We have no lawyers here at Graphviz, we are just a merry band of contributors.
Thank you both for your answers. I’ll try to use this argument and hope it will be accepted.
